5Great. Safe Little Heater!
By C. O. Harrell
I purchased these heaters in October 2012 after one of my cats knocked over the Lasko heater and scorched the rug which could have caused a house fire! Luckily I woke up in time!

This heater makes very little noise (at least not enough to bother me, anyway) and it has a tip-over safety switch which makes it far safer for homes with pets, little kids, or clumsy big-footed adults. The one thing I would like to see added would be some sort of detachable filter that one could wash as we live in a very dusty area, but since it does not have this I find blowing them out with the leaf-blower (Outside, of course!) once a week does the trick. (You would be amazed at the amount of dog and cat hair that gets inside space heaters, even if you do vacuum and clean regularly, not to mention the dust!)

I find that they heat well. Unless it is way below freezing, I only have to use one heater for our large main living area, one in each bedroom, and that's it. Even wi th the cost of electricity it is much cheaper than running the propane furnace. One thing you have to make sure of is that the heater is on a flat surface; in other words if you put it on a sculpted carpet it may not turn on because of the safety switch. Just adjust it a bit and it will work fine.

They aren't very pretty, but I prefer safety and practicality to looks. When he first saw one of these heaters my husband said, "Hey, where did you get the bowling ball?" and tried to kick it. So they do look like a bowling ball from above but at least you can see them. The handle is built in so they are really easy to move out of your way when cleaning and everything but the front metal grate stays cool to the touch when the units are operating, which prevents above mentioned pets and rugrats from accidentally scorching something just brushing against it.

I find it difficult to read the settings from above but these heaters weigh next to nothing so it is no p roblem to pick them up to adjust the temperature or turn them off.

Overall, I would definitely recommend them to my friends (and have done so)and to anyone with pets, kids, elderly folks or the terminally clumsy.
